Privacy Policy
The short version. The EstateLedger software makes no internet connections at all, so your bank statements and estate data never leave your computer — we could not see them if we wanted to. This website sets no tracking cookies and has no advertising pixels and no forms. It does count page views, using Cloudflare's cookieless analytics, which stores no IP address and nothing that identifies you. The only personal information we ever hold is what Gumroad passes to us when you buy a licence, and whatever you choose to put in an email to us.
1. The software: nothing leaves your computer
EstateLedger is a desktop program. It makes no network connections of any kind. There is no account to create, nothing is uploaded, and there is no telemetry, crash reporting or usage analytics inside the application.
Your statements, the estate file, your notes and the workbooks you export are written to a folder on your own disk and stay there. Licence activation is checked offline, from the key you paste in — the program does not contact us or Gumroad to validate it. You could disconnect your computer from the internet entirely and EstateLedger would work exactly the same.
This means we hold none of the estate data you work with, and we have no technical means of obtaining it. It also means the security of that data depends on the security of your own computer and your own backups.
2. This website
getestateledger.com is a set of static pages. It contains no tag manager, no advertising or social pixels, no third-party fonts, no comment system, and no forms or input fields of any kind. We do not set cookies to identify or track you, and there is nothing on the site for you to submit.
We do count page views, using Cloudflare Web Analytics. It runs from a small script that Cloudflare inserts into our pages at its own servers, so it does not appear in the files we publish — which is how an earlier version of this policy came to say, wrongly, that the site carried no analytics at all. Cloudflare states that it uses no cookies or other client-side storage for analytics, and that it does not track visitors over time by IP address, user-agent string or other fixed attributes. The fields actually recorded for a page view are: the page requested, the referring page, country, browser, operating system, device type, how the page was loaded, whether the request looked automated, the time, and a few technical delivery details. No IP address, no query strings and no identifier for you as a visitor are stored, so these figures cannot be traced back to a person — by Cloudflare, and certainly not by us. We use them only to see which guides get read and whether visitors reach the download page. Cloudflare holds this data in full for seven days and a sample of it after that.
On pages that show an email address, Cloudflare also inserts a small script that hides the address from spam harvesters. It does no tracking of any kind.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical request data — such as your IP address, the page requested, timestamp, browser user-agent and approximate region — in order to deliver the page and to protect the site from attack and abuse. This processing is performed by Cloudflare as our hosting and security provider under its own privacy terms. We do not use that data to build a profile of you, and we do not combine it with anything else.
We also use Google Search Console, which reports aggregated, anonymous statistics about how the site appears in Google search results — counts of impressions, clicks and average ranking position for pages and search terms. It does not identify individual visitors and we cannot use it to do so.
3. Buying a licence
Purchases are handled entirely by Gumroad. We never see or receive your card number or other payment credentials; Gumroad and its payment processors handle those, and their own privacy policy governs that processing.
What we do receive from Gumroad, as the seller, is the order record: typically your email address, name or account name, country, the amount paid and any tax applied. We use that information only to fulfil and support your purchase — to identify a buyer who writes to us about a licence key, to issue a refund, and to keep the records we are required to keep for tax and accounting purposes. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone except where the law requires. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not send marketing email.
4. Email
If you write to us, we receive your email address, your message, and anything you choose to include in it. We use it to answer you and we keep the correspondence so we can pick up a thread later.
Please do not email us bank statements or estate data. We do not need them to help you, and email is not a secure channel for a deceased person's financial records. If you have a problem with an import or a reconciliation, describe it — that is almost always enough.
5. How long we keep things
Order records are kept for as long as we need them to support the purchase and to meet tax and accounting record-keeping obligations, then deleted. Email correspondence is kept while it is useful for support and deleted when it is not. Server logs are retained by Cloudflare for the period set out in its own policies. We hold no estate data at any point, so there is none to retain or delete.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live — for example under the GDPR in the UK and EEA, or under California law — you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to receive a copy of it, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to your data protection authority.
Because we hold so little, these requests are usually simple to answer. Write to swm.lee0294@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable time and at no charge. We may need to confirm you are the person the information relates to before we act.
Where we rely on a legal basis under the GDPR, it is: performance of a contract (fulfilling and supporting your purchase), our legitimate interests (running and securing the website, answering correspondence), and legal obligation (tax and accounting records).
7. International transfers
We operate from the Republic of Korea. Gumroad operates from the United States and Cloudflare operates a global network, so where any personal information is involved it may be processed outside your country of residence. Those providers maintain their own transfer safeguards. Note again that no estate data is transferred anywhere at all, because none of it ever leaves your computer.
8. Children
The Service is intended for adults administering an estate. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with information, write to us and we will delete it.
9. Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top will change. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
6 August 2026 — correction. The first version of this policy, published on 4 August 2026, said this website carried no analytics. That was wrong. Cloudflare Web Analytics was enabled, and because Cloudflare adds its script at its own servers rather than in the files we publish, it was missed when the policy was written. No cookies were set and no visitor was ever identified, then or now — only the description was inaccurate. Section 2 now sets out what is measured and what is not.
